Abstract
The objective of this study was to characterize the production process and destination of production of vegetable producers of Augustinópolis - TO, located in the far north of the State of Tocantins, 615 km away from the state capital, Palmas – TO. The research was a descriptive - exploratory type, of quantitative nature, in an attempt to characterize the practices used in the cultivation and destination of vegetables, through the application of questionnaires, containing 12 objective questions directed to the producers involved. Thus, the study included a literature review and a field study. The cultivation of vegetables is an alternative to generate income for farmers, and most farmers report that they survive from this activity, highlighting also incomes ranging from R$ 100.00 to 1.5 minimum wages. The affirmatives of interest in the continuity of the cultivation of vegetables by all the interviewees evidences the vegetable production as a good alternative for the complementation of the income and, even, as central pillar for the financial independence for small producers.
