EDUCATION, THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE POVERTY AND SOCIAL INEQUALITY

Abstract

Poverty and social inequality are social problems that affect most countries in the world today, especially underdeveloped and undeveloped countries, such as Brazil, where there is no balance in the living standards of its inhabitants, in either the economic, scholar, or professional spheres, among others. This article was developed based on bibliographic research taken from books, articles, scientific journals and the internet. The aim of the study was to make a brief reflection on the importance of education in combating poverty and social inequality. The results showed that educational differences between individuals generate inequality in the labor market, which generates income inequality, resulting in the persistence of poverty. Poverty and social inequality are associated with multiple causes, but they are strongly correlated with low levels of education. It is concluded that education is an important tool for decreasing poverty and social inequality, but for this to happen it is necessary to make changes in the educational system, especially regarding the democratization of education, providing to all students, including the poorest and most needy and most vulnerable students, a quality and equal education.
