Abstract

In the current public health scenario, cancer presents itself as a pathology of great relevance in the health care landscape in Brazil. Among the most prevalent neoplasms, it is noteworthy for prostate cancer, which, due to the great rejection of men to perform rectal exam, periodically, in a preventive way, has become pathology with a significant number of cases. Thus, it is necessary to carry out an adequate planning on health care to effectively meet the needs of patients suffering from prostate cancer, which is one of the main challenges for health professionals. The care for patients with prostate cancer is carried out in different environments, including emergency care services. In this context, Nursing has a fundamental role in using the Nursing Process to enable organized and quality care to patients. In this sense, the present study aimed to carry out a bibliographic survey about the main physiological and anatomical characteristics of prostate cancer, the epidemiology of prostate cancer in Brazil, and the role of nurses in the process of promoting and preventing prostate cancer, and during the urgency and emergency process. This study provides a broad view of the various physiological / anatomical aspects of prostate cancer, as well as the promotion and prevention and urgent and emergency care provided to patients suffering from prostate cancer.
